Neighborhood Boundaries: From West Houston Street to 14th Street and from the Hudson River to Seventh Avenue
Subways: A, C, E, B, D, F, M, 1, 2, and 3
Architecture: Low rise, pre-war buildings with some post-war mid-rises; federal style townhouses and Greek revival buildings
What I Like Most About It: I adore the winding, tree lined streets and the “old world” feel of the architecture. It literally feels like a “village” within the city. There are lots of quaint, quiet pockets in the neighborhood, but there’s also an abundance of energy and activity to be found. The neighborhood is full of avant garde restaurants as well as cozier, older haunts. It is incredibly convenient in terms of subway access. You also don’t have to go very far for top notch shopping – Bleecker Street features a ton of high end shops, and Soho is just a few minutes away on the other side of West Houston.
