What I Like Most About It: Manhattan may be full of hip neighborhoods, but at the moment, it’s hard to compete again the Lower East Side for the title of “hippest of them all.” The neighborhood is full of a bevy of exciting new restaurants and bars, thanks to markedly lower commercial space rents versus other parts of the city. Essex, Delancey and East Houston are being transformed by new development, and there’s a lot of buzz about the rebirth of the storied Essex Street Market.
Retail newcomers to the neighborhood (as of publication of this post) will include Target and Trader Joe’s. Although some parts of the neighborhood can be a bit far flung from the subway, you can still enjoy easy access to neighborhoods like the East Village, Chinatown, Soho and Little Italy.
