Should You Work with a Rental Broker?

Whether or not you choose to work with a broker is a personal decision. If you’re on the fence about whether or not you should do so, here are some reasons why it may be worthwhile.

Save Time & Energy

The NYC rental market is extremely fast paced and listings can go very quickly. It can take a lot of time and energy to find an apartment on your own – searching and sorting through listings, checking availability, coordinating appointments, etc. A broker can do all of the legwork for you – all you have to do is specify what you’re looking for and then show up for the appointments once they are scheduled.

Broader Listings Pool

No fee apartments only represent a fraction of the rental inventory in NYC, so focusing exclusively on those types of listings eliminates a large number of other listings which could work very well for you. Working with a broker can give you access to the broadest pool of listings possible, increasing the likelihood of finding an apartment that’s a great fit in a short amount of time.

Market Expertise

Brokers are very in tune with what’s going on with the rental market at any given time. Their market expertise can ensure that your search is focused on apartments and neighborhoods which are appropriate for your needs and your budget. Brokers can also be extremely helpful to those who are looking to move to a new part of the city or relocating to the city for the first time.

Security

Unfortunately, there are many “bait and switch” listings posted on popular real estate aggregator sites. When working with a broker, you can feel more secure that the listings you are going to see are legitimate.
